Job Summary

Flex's multiple Design & Innovation sites are each part of the engineering development focus that is pushing the boundaries in product design and performance. Chartered with developing innovative technologies and supporting our customers in innovative product designs, the Flex Design & Innovation community is working on cutting edge products across all industries. Utilizing the latest technology advancements, the Austin Innovation Center, part of the Central Technology organization (CTG), focuses in developing cutting edge technologies and customer partnerships with mutual interest in technology focus area(s). This creates a fast-paced, technically challenging environment set for collaboration, innovation, and creativity to generate the products of tomorrow.
    Currently, the Central Technology organization is seeking a Business Development Manager, able to work remotely, but would have expectations to office in Austin, TX at the Austin Innovation Center, periodically. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team, directly contribute to the growth of the team and its customer base, work directly with highly capable design and innovation engineers, and build a pipeline to support cutting edge system design and engineering projects. This is a critical role responsible for managing the entire business pipeline of the Central Technology organization, specifically focusing on the Austin Innovation Center group, through the cultivating of new relationships and identifying/creating new business opportunities. This is a unique role which requires a diverse skill set requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a solid foundation of technical engineering business development. This individual, will be the front facing representative of Flex' Central Technology Group and Austin Innovation Center , exploring new opportunities, identifying new customer partnerships, and achieving a long-lasting business pipeline around engineering design services.

    What a typical day looks like:
    • Utilizes customer and market intelligence to develop sales and account penetration
    • Create and drive personal pipeline in line with overall Central Technology Group's strategy
    • New client acquisition specifically in the Highly Regulated/Aerospace/Defense or other applicable industry
    • Play a guidance role in devising strategies to promote Austin Innovation Center propositions to meet client requirements working alongside Sr. Directors and technical solution architects.
    • Knows the customer’s organization, products, market position, and goals, sourcing strategy, suppliers, manufacturing locations, opposition and future directions
    • Understands and manages pipeline development, pipeline management, contract negotiation and approval process
    • Research and knows customers’ business strategy, future product plans, and expansion activities
    • Achievement of personal booking targets
    • Define business priorities through a broad and far vision of market and technology needs, to include initiating and managing business development activities that will strengthen, expand and drive market penetration.
    • Aware of strategic fit between customers’ needs and AIC capabilities, in alignment with CTG business growth strategy
    • Negotiate deals and service accordance
    • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness of the highest standard and quality of work
    • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment and supports and explains reasoning for decisions
    • Other duties as assigned. Travel 25-50%
    What we are looking to add to our team:
    • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Business management (or related field)
    • 10+ years of experience in Design Service Sales, Related to a highly regulatory industry, aerospace, defense, etc.
    • Experience selling design services including mechanical, electrical, firmware, and textile engineering
    • Familiar with a variety of electromechanical design concepts, practices, and procedures
    • Experience with long cycle product development contracts and overall regulated industry acquisition process
    • Naturally intuitive, capable and tenacious
    • Someone who understands business growth strategy and can articulate it to prospective customers.
    • Strong verbal and technical writing skills
    • Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills
    • Strong analytical thinking skills
    • Demonstrated technical leadership collaboration
    • Must be able to travel 25-50% to meet with customers.
